It’s the best bad year ever!!
The trade is buzzing with gossip and rumour concerning the latest Brazil crop
According to Bloomberg reporting from a recent ICO event – Brazilian Farmers are on for a 50.8 million bag harvest this coming crop year
The 2013 harvest will start in a few months time and this forecast makes it likely to be a record for the so-called ‘low crop’ or ‘off cycle’
The all time harvest record was made last year – when in season 2012 55.9 million 60 kilo (132 Lb) bags were harvested
The result of this ‘glut’ in the Arabica trade has been a devastating terminal NYC price decline to near $1.20 / Lb
This represents a +70% slump since the May 2011 + $3 / Lb highs and today values the Brazilian coffee crop at c $ 8.5 B dollar
Eye watering and sobering – that even at a low, the coffee trade and raw bean harvest remains such a key fundamental economic pillar to the emerging bullish Brazilian economy and of course to the global coffee trade itself
Time me thinks for a ‘reflective’ perfetto espresso moment!
