Big Boys Play Away From Home
Guru has always been skeptical of off the shelf branded ethical and sustainable accreditations.
Such brands and marks are only mere salves to the conscience of western consumers and the controlling bodies themselves are often purveyors of a culture of bureaucracy, margin management and jobs for the privileged western European boys….
A back to basics direct in origin approach has always seemed most sensible and likely to have a better chance of meaningful success and lasting effect to the local community
It is therefore interesting to hear of the recent McDonalds farmer grower initiative in Guatemala – where they are splashing $6.5 m to help 13,000 small hold farmers to improve quality and output via a so called ‘Technical Assistance Program’….
…As well as the action by the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters who have committed $2 m to support two clean water projects in communities where it sources coffee in Nicaragua
Such activities are heart warming corporate actions above the usual cynicisms and may well deliver a lasting change – All here at Aromo say – Good Luck!
